Practical information — Weinwandertag Blütengrund
Getting There
By car: A9 (exit Naumburg/Bad Kösen) to Naumburg, then direction Großjena/Blütengrund. By train: Naumburg main station (ICE connection), then by taxi (approx. 8 minutes) or by bike to Blütengrund. Parking is available along the access road to Blütengrund – it can get crowded on German Unity Day, so arriving early is recommended.
Admission
The Weinwandertag itself is free to access. Tastings and food are paid for individually at each station. Recommendation: Bring cash – not every farm station accepts card payments.
Tip
For tastings, purchase multiple glass tokens (or a tasting glass) that can be carried from station to station.
Where Saale and Unstrut Meet
The Blütengrund, north of Naumburg, is a unique landscape: Here, the Unstrut flows into the Saale, and the steep southern slopes on both sides of the rivers have been vineyards for over a thousand years. With about 800 hectares of vineyards, Saale-Unstrut is the northernmost quality-defining wine-growing region in Europe and one of the most traditional in Germany. In the heart of this area, in Großjenaer Blütengrund (a district of Naumburg in the Burgenlandkreis district), the Weinwandertag takes place every year on October 3rd – German Unity Day.
A Circular Route, Nine Stations
The approximately 7-kilometer circular route starts at the Naumburger Wein & Sekt Manufaktur (Blütengrund 35) and leads through vineyards, orchards, and terraced slopes. At nine stations – all family wineries, cider distilleries, 'Straußwirtschaften', and farm shops, which are usually closed otherwise – you can taste regional wines, sparkling wines, apple wines, and small dishes from Saale-Unstrut cuisine. Each station designs its own program: live music here, dancing there, tastings, farm tours, cellar tours.
A Tradition in the Burgenlandkreis District
The date is traditional: The Weinwandertag always takes place on October 3rd – and on two further Sundays in October, the vintners open for a "small" format. In 2026, these will be October 10th and 17th. Those who plan their visit consciously can combine the hike with a visit to Naumburg Cathedral (UNESCO World Heritage Site), a visit to the Kösen Memorial, or a night in the Saale-Unstrut region – one of Germany's most beautiful wine regions, located in the state of Saxony-Anhalt.
A Hike, Not a Race
The format is intentionally relaxed: there is no guided tour, no competition, no starting gun. Everyone walks at their own pace, tastes what they want, stops where they want, and returns home in the evening with a basket full of wine and impressions. Sturdy footwear is recommended – the paths through the vineyards are unpaved and sometimes steep.
