World Music under the UNESCO Cathedral

When the lights come on on a balmy July or August Friday evening in Naumburg and sounds from all over the world echo through the cathedral garden, the Naumburger Nächte are underway. The concert series is jointly supported by the City of Naumburg and the Vereinigte Domstifter and uses one of the most beautiful event locations in Saxony-Anhalt: the cathedral garden in front of the west choir of Naumburg Cathedral. The latter has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 2018 – particularly due to the famous donor figures of Uta von Naumburg and her companions, considered masterpieces of High Medieval sculpture.

Six Concerts, Six Cultures

The Naumburger Nächte 2026 offer a clearly curated program: six concert evenings, each on Fridays at 7:30 PM. The opening on July 11 features the Nina Ogot Band with Afro-Fusion from Kenya. On July 18, Orchestra MONDO follows with Tango-Gypsy crossover. July 25 belongs to the Ali Doğan Gönültaş Trio – Kurdish-Armenian-Alevi tradition from Anatolia. On August 1, Alba Armengou plays Catalan and Latin American jazz repertoire, on August 8, Black-Patti plays Blues and Roots, and on August 15, Christophe Bourdoiseau & Trio Scho conclude the series with French Chansons.

Naumburg — Saale-Unstrut World Heritage City

Naumburg is located in the Burgenlandkreis district in southern Saxony-Anhalt, at the intersection of the Saale and Unstrut rivers. The city with its approximately 30,000 inhabitants is not only a World Heritage Site (Naumburg Cathedral) but also the gateway to the wine-growing region of the same name. The combination of medieval architecture, rolling wine landscapes, and a culinarily distinctive region makes Naumburg one of the most attractive summer destinations in Saxony-Anhalt. The Naumburger Nächte concerts connect the city's cultural-historical with its international dimension.

Feel-Good Concept

What defines the series: no festival hustle, no large stage, but open-air with seating and some standing room, admission from 6:45 PM at the West Choir entrance. Those who come bring blankets, buy a beer at the stand, listen to music from a part of the world rarely experienced in Saxony-Anhalt – and occasionally gaze at the Romanesque-Gothic cathedral.

Naumburger Nächte — edition 2026

Six summer open-air concerts in the cathedral garden of the UNESCO World Heritage Naumburg Cathedral. World music from six continents: Afro-Fusion, Tango-Gypsy, Kurdish-Armenian, Latin Jazz, Blues, Chanson.

The Naumburger Nächte 2026 continue the concept of previous years: six Friday evenings with world music in the cathedral garden, high-caliber and stylistically diverse. Advance ticket sales have already started; the series is a popular summer event among Saale-Unstrut tourists and the wine region.
