Anniversary weekend of the Betzdorf Volunteer Fire Brigade with anniversary party and Blue Light Mile around the Stadthalle
The Betzdorf Volunteer Fire Brigade was founded in 1901 and is celebrating its 125th anniversary in 2026. For over a century, it has ensured the safety of the Sieg-Stadt and surrounding districts — responding to fires, floods, technical assistance, traffic accidents, and many other emergencies. The 125th anniversary honors the voluntary commitment of the numerous male and female firefighters who have contributed and continue to contribute over the decades.
The anniversary weekend kicks off on Saturday evening with the anniversary party in the Betzdorf Stadthalle. Doors open at 7:00 PM. The band UNART opens the evening with a live concert, followed by DJ Wäschi who will spin tunes until late into the night. Advance tickets cost 15 Euros, and tickets at the door are 18 Euros.
Sunday begins at 11:00 AM with the festive ceremony in the Stadthalle. Greetings, honors for deserving members, a look back at the 125-year history of the association, and an outlook on the challenges of the modern fire service will be presented. The Betzdorf City Band will provide musical accompaniment for the ceremony. From 1:00 PM, the Blue Light Mile opens around the Stadthalle.
The Blue Light Mile is the most popular program item of the anniversary weekend. Emergency vehicles from the Betzdorf Fire Brigade and friendly brigades will be on display — from historical fire engines from the early days of the brigade to the latest turntable ladders, rescue vehicles, and crew transporters. Demonstrations will showcase the skills of the firefighters: firefighting, technical assistance, rescue from heights and depths. Stands from the fire brigade, rescue services, police, and other emergency organizations will complement the program.
For the youngest visitors, the appearance of Fireman Sam from 2:00 PM to 5:00 PM is particularly attractive. The popular children's TV character, a firefighter from Pontypandy in Wales, is a favorite among children and ensures unforgettable encounters. A supporting children's program with a bouncy castle, face painting, and small games completes the family offering.
The Sunday program of the fire brigade anniversary coincides with the Betzdorf Spring Festival in the city center. This overlap creates a particularly packed festival weekend for the Sieg-Stadt: anyone in Betzdorf on Sunday can visit both the Blue Light Mile and the Spring Festival with its open shops.
The program is confirmed by the fire brigade and local press:
