Advent magic on Köpenick Castle Island
Köpenick Castle Island is one of the most beautiful historic sites in the Treptow-Köpenick district. When the "Christmas Island" opens its stalls here, the castle square in front of the baroque Köpenick Castle transforms into a small Advent market. Wooden huts, fairy lights, and the scent of mulled wine, roasted almonds, and freshly baked cakes attract families from all over southeast Berlin.
The Christmas Island is deliberately not a giant event like the Christmas market at the Red Town Hall or the Lucia Market in the Kulturbrauerei. It focuses on an extended Advent weekend and combines arts and crafts, regional food, and small hands-on activities – including tower brass music, a children's carousel, and a festively illuminated castle facade. The organizer is Laubinger Event GmbH, specializing in Advent markets around Berlin and Brandenburg.
With its medieval old town, castle, and location between the Dahme and Spree rivers, Köpenick offers an Advent backdrop unparalleled in Berlin. Anyone looking for a quieter spot with a water view after the hustle and bustle of the city center markets will find the Christmas Island to be just the ticket. Traveling by S-Bahn line S3 to S Köpenick and then taking tram 27, 60, 61, 62, 67, or 68 is significantly more relaxed than the crowds at Gendarmenmarkt.
From December 11th to 13th, 2026, the Christmas Island will transform Köpenick Castle Square into a light market for the third Advent weekend. Wooden huts will be arranged in front of the baroque castle facade, along with tower brass music, a historic children's carousel, and the full range of mulled wine, roasted almonds, gingerbread, and bratwurst. Free admission.
The complete program for the Köpenick Christmas Island 2026 will be published shortly before the market opens, according to the organizer Laubinger Event GmbH, on laubinger.de. The framework, established over the years:
