Three-day cultural festival with live music and illumination in the Hofgarten below the Residenzschloss
The Hofgartenfest Neuburg takes place in the Hofgarten below the Residenzschloss in the Upper Bavarian district town of Neuburg an der Donau (Neuburg-Schrobenhausen district, Bavaria). The Residenzschloss is a 16th-century Renaissance building that was once the main residence of the Principality of Pfalz-Neuburg. The adjacent Hofgarten was laid out as a landscape extension of the castle ensemble – and today forms one of Upper Bavaria's most beautiful city parks.
The festival concept includes three festival days with two stages, where local and regional artists present a broad spectrum of genres:
A special feature of the festival is the elaborate illumination: As darkness falls, the entire Hofgarten and its magnificent trees are bathed in colourful light. This light installation is one of the festival's hallmarks and distinguishes the Hofgartenfest from other city festivals.
The Hofgartenfest takes place every two years (biennial) and celebrates its 6th edition in 2026. It was founded in 2012 and quickly developed into a "firm pillar in Neuburg's event calendar". Tens of thousands of visitors came to the Hofgarten for the 2024 edition.
The festival consciously emphasizes local and regional artists – instead of supra-regional stars, the focus is on musical, theatrical, and dance creativity from Neuburg, Ingolstadt, Munich, and the surrounding Upper Bavarian region. Regional caterers provide the festival grounds with Bavarian and international specialities.
Neuburg an der Donau, with around 30,000 inhabitants, is a district town in the Neuburg-Schrobenhausen district (Upper Bavaria, Bavaria), located at the transition from the Danube to the plateau of the Upper Bavarian hill country. Historically, the town was the residence of the Principality of Pfalz-Neuburg and, with the Residenzschloss and the Hofgarten, boasts two of the most important Renaissance complexes in Southern Germany.
As every two years, the city of Neuburg an der Donau invites you to the Hofgartenfest. The 6th edition will take place from June 12th to 14th, 2026 – exact confirmation follows after the city council's decision. The program will be published on neuburg-donau.de in the months leading up to the festival.
Local caterers, musicians and bands, theatre and dance groups, and clubs are invited to participate early on – the festival consciously focuses on local colour and regional diversity. The programme is organised in cooperation with Stadtmarketing Neuburg.
Detailed programme and artist list will be published in spring 2026 on neuburg-donau.de.
