Classical, Folk, and Jazz in the historic cowshed of Schlossgut Pronstorf
The cowshed of Gut Pronstorf, located in the heart of Holstein Switzerland, is an architectural gem: a tall brick building from 1845 with original wooden beams, which today offers a unique concert backdrop after extensive heritage conservation measures. The estate itself has been the seat of the Rantzau family of counts for centuries and is one of the most beautiful castles in the Segeberg district of Schleswig-Holstein.
Pronstorf is one of the oldest venues in the Music Festivals in the Countryside series, which the Schleswig-Holstein Music Festival launched in 1986 under Justus Frantz. The basic idea has remained the same to this day: to bring top-class classical music not to the grand halls of the cities, but to the barns, riding arenas, and cowsheds of the countryside, with a picnic atmosphere, farm bakery, and family program.
On Saturdays, three one-hour concerts will be performed between 1 p.m. and 6 p.m. (Block A), and on Sundays between 11 a.m. and 4 p.m. (Block C). In between, you can spread out a blanket on the meadows around the castle, enjoy a picnic, try out intermission games, or encounter walk-acts. On Saturday evening, a 90-minute evening concert (Block B) follows, often featuring particularly extraordinary programs — in 2026, for example, a folk odyssey with the Lodestar Trio.
The Schleswig-Holstein Music Festival is one of the largest and most renowned classical music festivals in Europe. In 2026, the 41st edition runs from July 4th to August 30th and brings around 200 concerts to more than 100 venues in Schleswig-Holstein and Northern Germany. Pronstorf is one of about half a dozen main rural venues.
The 2026 edition of Musikfest Pronstorf takes place as part of the 41st Schleswig-Holstein Music Festival (July 4 to August 30, 2026). Over two days, the historic cowshed of the estate will be filled with concerts, and in between, the castle meadows invite you to picnic and linger.
The musical highlight of 2026 is a colorful "Folk Odyssey" with an ensemble around the Lodestar Trio, which will perform a 90-minute concert on Saturday evening starting at 8 p.m. In Block A on Saturday (1–6 p.m.) and Block C on Sunday (11 a.m.–4 p.m.), three one-hour concerts with charming moderation will be presented, along with walk-acts and play activities for the whole family.
In the summer of 2026, Pronstorf will also host other individual concerts as part of the SHMF: Martin Fröst on August 13th, Time for Three on August 24th, and the program "From Mozart to Piazzolla" on August 27th. The exact program will be published at shmf.de.
Pronstorf is located between Bad Segeberg and Eutin in the Segeberg district. By car via the A21 (exit Bad Segeberg-Nord), continue for about 15 minutes towards Pronstorf. By train to Bad Segeberg and from there by taxi or shuttle.
Block A (Sat 1–6 p.m.) and Block C (Sun 11 a.m.–4 p.m.): €35 each; Block B (Sat 8–9:30 p.m.) €25. Booking via shmf.de or local ticket offices.
Snacks and drinks are offered at the estate. Picnic blankets are allowed. In case of rain, everything takes place in the cowshed.
