Schützenfest with Village Community

The Vogelschießen Bornhöved is the traditional highlight festival of the municipality of Bornhöved in the Segeberg district. It combines North German shooting traditions with a strong village heritage: two days dedicated to competitions, games, and a festive parade that brings the entire village community together.

Schützenfest Tradition

The Vogelschießen dates back to a centuries-old North German tradition: marksmen compete against each other to "shoot" the symbolic bird and win the title of Schützenkönig (shooting king). In Bornhöved, the competitions take place in the Mensa of the Sventana-Schule, complemented by children's games and social gatherings for the entire village community.

Two-Day Programme

  • Saturday: Shooting competitions and games in the Mensa of the Sventana-Schule, 11 AM–4 PM
  • Sunday: Festive parade through Bornhöved, starting at 3 PM at Achtern Höfen, followed by socializing and the proclamation of the king

Region: Segeberg District

Bornhöved is an old village community in the Segeberg district, located in the heart of Holstein Switzerland between Lübeck and Neumünster. The municipality has a strong network of clubs and associations, and the Vogelschießen is an expression of this village identity. Bornhöved is situated on the eastern shore of the Bornhöveder See lake and belongs to the Amt Bornhöved in the state of Schleswig-Holstein.
