Worms Christmas market from Parmaplatz via Obermarkt and Winzerbrunnen to Römischer Kaiser
The Worms Christmas stretches for four weeks through the Worms city centre — from Parmaplatz in the north via the central Obermarkt and Winzerbrunnen to the Römischer Kaiser. The stalls are grouped so that a continuous market tour emerges, encompassing the Worms pedestrian zone and the adjacent squares. Festive lighting, illuminated fir trees and arches of light over the streets create the typical Advent atmosphere.
A Worms speciality — as at many Rheinhessen Christmas markets — is the strong presence of local winegrowers at the mulled wine stands. Worms and Rheinhessen wineries offer their own mulled wine, often made from red and white cuvées of past vintages, with their own spice mixes. Alongside, there is hot mulled white wine, punch and alcohol-free hot drinks.
Many of the mulled wine and catering stands are operated on a rotation principle by Worms clubs, parishes and aid organizations. The clubs collect donations for their work in this way and are at the same time visible in the cityscape. The concept connects the city's economic viability with civic participation.
At the Worms Christmas market, classic amusement rides for children are also found: a historical children's carousel, a small Ferris wheel with a view of the Worms cathedral, a fairytale train. Craft activities for children, St. Nicholas visits on fixed days and children's choirs on the stage complete the family program.
A special Worms ritual is the traditional community singing during the bell ringing on the 4th Advent Sunday. When the bells of the Worms cathedral and the surrounding churches ring, hundreds of Worms residents and visitors gather and sing classic German Christmas carols together under the open sky — a moment that makes the community dimension of the Worms Christmas particularly visible.
On Totensonntag, November 22nd, 2026, the Worms Christmas market remains closed out of respect. This practice corresponds to the Protestant tradition of the day of remembrance for the deceased and is widespread at many Rheinhessen markets.
The exact program for 2026 will be published by the Kultur und Veranstaltungs GmbH Worms in autumn. The structure follows the proven cornerstones of previous years:
