Traditional parish festival with wine festival and Frühschoppen in the parish garden of the Upper Bavarian municipality of Anzing
The scapular is a Catholic monastic garment element, whose veneration goes back to the Carmelite Order. From this developed the scapular confraternity, a lay piety model with roots in the Middle Ages. Many Bavarian parish communities celebrate the Skapulierfest every year in July out of this tradition — as a parish festival with a festive service, procession, and subsequent gathering.
In Anzing, the Skapulierfest has evolved into a two-day event in the parish garden. On Saturday evening, the wine festival starts with selected wines, snacks, and musical accompaniment — the atmosphere is more relaxed and informal than at a classic Volksfest, and the parish garden offers a sheltered setting under the trees. On Sunday at 11:00 AM, the traditional Frühschoppen follows, often with brass music, Weißwürste (traditional Bavarian white sausages), and Bavarian beer.
Anzing is located about 20 kilometers east of Munich on the railway line to Markt Schwaben and Mühldorf, in the Ebersberg district. The municipality belongs to the Upper Bavarian Munich metropolitan area and has grown in recent decades without completely losing its village character. The parish community is a central social pillar of the town, and the Skapulierfest is one of the most important summer dates.
The organizer is the Anzing parish council, which organizes the festival independently and carries it out with helpers from the parish community. The proceeds from the wine festival and Frühschoppen benefit the parish work.
Usually, a festive service for the Skapulierfest is held in the parish church on Sunday morning. The entire weekend is organized by the Anzing parish council, and the proceeds benefit the parish work.
