Maibaumstellen Büchenbronn — Tradition on the Rathausplatz

The Maibaumstellen (Maypole raising) is one of the oldest spring customs in Baden-Württemberg: a tall coniferous log is decorated with colorful ribbons, regional coats of arms, guild signs, and symbols, and then erected — as a sign of the transition from winter to spring and for the cohesion of the village community. In the Pforzheim district of Büchenbronn, the Maibaumstellen takes place annually on the last Saturday of April on the Rathausplatz — in 2026, this falls on April 25, from 12:00 PM.

Local Administration and Fire Department Hand in Hand

The Maibaumstellen is organized by the local administration of Büchenbronn together with the Volunteer Fire Department Pforzheim, Büchenbronn division. The fire department handles the heavy work: the Maypole, which was prepared and decorated weeks earlier by employees of the municipal building yard, is erected using muscle power, poles, and safety ropes — a demonstration of craftsmanship that attracts hundreds of spectators every year.

Catering and Cozy Get-Together

After the raising, the festival transitions into its social part: on-site catering with drinks, sausages, Maibaum rolls, and coffee/cake. The Büchenbronn clubs provide the refreshments, the atmosphere is familiar and relaxed — a classic Swabian Hocketse (get-together) that ushers in spring. In case of rain or bad weather, a covered alternative is offered, ensuring the festival takes place regardless.

Büchenbronn — the southernmost district of Pforzheim

Büchenbronn is one of nine districts of the city of Pforzheim (Goldstadt, approx. 125,000 inhabitants) and is located in the south of the city on the edge of the Northern Black Forest. With around 8,000 inhabitants, Büchenbronn has a strong identity of its own — its own local administration, its own club landscape, its own festivals. The Maibaumstellen, alongside the summer festival and the Christmas market, is one of the most important events in the Büchenbronn club year. Pforzheim itself belongs to the urban district of Pforzheim and is located in the Enzkreis district in Baden-Württemberg.
