Sprint and Olympic distance plus relay on the Elbe in Bleckede — flat course through town and marshland
The Sparkassen-Bibermann-Triathlon has been a firm fixture in the Northern German triathlon scene for many years. The event is organized by RSC Lüneburg e.V., known for its meticulous organization and friendly atmosphere. The venue is the Schützenplatz in Bleckede, right on the banks of the Elbe, where the transition area, registration, and catering are concentrated. The name Bibermann (Beaver Man) is a playful reference to the Elbe beaver, which is native to the adjacent Lower Saxony Elbe Valley Biosphere Reserve and has become the event's unofficial mascot.
The competition offers two classic distances and a relay competition. The sprint distance includes 500 meters of swimming, 20 kilometers of cycling, and 5 kilometers of running. The Olympic distance challenges athletes with 1,500 meters of swimming, 40 kilometers of cycling, and 10 kilometers of running. The relay competition allows teams of three people to each take on one discipline of the sprint course — ideal for sports groups, club teams, or groups of friends with mixed skill levels.
The swimming takes place in the Elbe River — an exciting feature that naturally requires open-water experience. The cycling route leads over paved country roads through the typical marsh landscape with wide meadows, dikes, and avenues. The running course runs along the Elbe riverbank and through the town of Bleckede. As the region is largely flat, the triathlon is excellently suited for personal best times and for ambitious beginners looking to complete their first Olympic distance.
RSC Lüneburg organizes the Bibermann-Triathlon with a large team of volunteers. Sparkassen sponsorship provides long-term financial security for the event. The town of Bleckede supports with road closures, infrastructure at the Schützenplatz, and connections to the harbor and castle. For spectators, the Schützenplatz with the transition area, finish line, and catering station is the ideal place to follow the race action.
The day begins early in the morning with registration and distribution of bib numbers at the Schützenplatz. This is followed by the starts of the individual categories, staggered in time. The exact start time sequence and routes will be finalized by RSC Lüneburg about four weeks before the competition and published on the club's website. The award ceremonies traditionally take place in the afternoon in the finish area. Local clubs and sponsors will provide catering along the course and in the finish area.
The detailed program for 2026 will be published by the organizer in the summer. The structure will follow the proven key points of previous years:
