Midsummer on the island of Hiddensee

The Midsummer Festival on Hiddensee celebrates the summer solstice – the longest day of the year. The venue is the sports field in Vitte, the central location on the car-free Baltic Sea island in the Vorpommern-Rügen district. The customs surrounding Midsummer have a long tradition in Northern Europe and on the Baltic coast, and Hiddensee embraces this tradition with a family-friendly island festival.

From cake bazaar to the midsummer pole

The program starts in the afternoon and lasts throughout the day:

• Barbecue stand with sausages, steaks, vegetarian dishes, and crêpes
• Cake bazaar in the afternoon
• Braiding flower and willow wreaths
• Erecting the midsummer pole
• Children's program in the early evening

The wreath braiding and the erection of the decorated midsummer pole are among the traditional highlights of the festival.

Live music in the evening

The festival day concludes with a live concert. With music and long daylight hours, the Midsummer Festival ends convivially – a true community experience for the island's residents and their guests.

An island festival with free admission

The Midsummer Festival is organized by the municipality of Seebad Insel Hiddensee. Admission is free, making the festival open to all who wish to celebrate the start of summer on the island.
