Spring festival on the Magistrale with live music, German-Polish activities, and flea market from April 10th to 12th, 2026
When the first warm sunny days return after the long Brandenburg winter, the city center of Frankfurt (Oder) opens its season with a three-day city festival: the cityFRÜHLING. From April 10th to 12th, 2026, Karl-Marx-Straße — the central shopping axis, popularly known as the Magistrale — becomes an open-air stage, a hands-on activity area, and a German-Polish meeting place. The organizer is Messe und Veranstaltungs GmbH Frankfurt (Oder), and the festival is co-financed by the INTERREG Program VI A Brandenburg–Poland 2021–2027 through the small projects fund of the EUROREGION PRO EUROPA VIADRINA.
The cityFRÜHLING doesn't rely on a single headliner but on a mix of parallel program points taking place between shops and cafés. Live bands play on several stages, stilt walkers roam among visitors, show cooking stations demonstrate regional cuisine, and a bungee trampoline attracts the youngest. This mix transforms the Magistrale into a continuous festival mile from Friday afternoon to Sunday evening.
The free hands-on workshops are particularly popular: building nest boxes for local birdlife, planting spring flowers for the balcony, painting spring motifs with acrylic paints. Parents can let their children be creative here safely while exploring the Magistrale. On Saturday and Sunday (April 11th and 12th), a spring flea market will also take place, where residents sell their treasures on tables in front of the shops — a perfect opportunity to declutter the apartment after winter or find an unexpected bargain.
Since the fall of the Wall, Frankfurt (Oder) and Słubice have formed a German-Polish twin city, separated only by the Oder River. The cityFRÜHLING deliberately highlights this special feature: on Sunday at 2 PM, a German-Polish city tour will guide visitors “through the history of the twin city and its development — from its garden city tradition and former tomato cultivation to wine culture on the Oder.” Those who collect stickers in participating shops during the promotion period (April 10–17) will receive a 5-Euro shopping voucher at the German-Polish Tourist Information Center — the city's DoppeltGUTSCHEIN campaign.
Karl-Marx-Straße is the central shopping and connecting axis between the city center and the Oder bridge to Słubice. After a significant population decline following reunification, the Magistrale has been experiencing a noticeable rebirth in recent years — with new shops, cafés, and cultural offerings. Festivals like the cityFRÜHLING and its counterpart cityHERBST in autumn are part of this renewal and proof that city festivals can also be a magnet in medium-sized East German cities.
From April 10th to 12th, 2026, Karl-Marx-Straße in Frankfurt (Oder) will transform into a three-day festival mile, starting Friday afternoon and concluding Sunday evening. Messe und Veranstaltungs GmbH plans over 30 program points between the city center shops.
The focus in 2026 is on German-Polish cooperation with Słubice — as always, the festival is co-financed by the INTERREG Program VI A Brandenburg–Poland.
