Maritime Beach Festival on Hiddensee

The Neptunfest is one of the most popular summer events on the Baltic Sea island of Hiddensee. It takes place directly on the beach of Vitte, the central location on the car-free island in the Vorpommern-Rügen district. The focus is on maritime traditions surrounding the sea god Neptune – a classic on the German Baltic Sea coast.

Games and Competition on the Beach

The festival offers a varied program for families. Children's games and a sandcastle competition invite the youngest guests to participate. The beach thus becomes a large play area with activities throughout the day.

The Neptune Baptism

The highlight of the festival is the traditional Neptune baptism ceremony. The sea god Neptune and his retinue celebrate the baptism in a humorous setting – a custom that has been maintained on the Baltic Sea coast for generations and is particularly popular with children.

Live Music and Barbecue Stand

In the evening, a live band takes the stage and provides the atmosphere on the beach for several hours. A barbecue stand with sausages, steaks, grilled potatoes, and vegetarian options caters to culinary needs. The Neptunfest is organized by the municipality of Seebad Insel Hiddensee. Admission is free.
