Tip
As Hiddensee is car-free, travel and ferry times should be planned well in advance. Weather-appropriate clothing is recommended for the island event.
Running on the Car-Free Island
The Hiddenseelauf takes runners across the Baltic Sea island of Hiddensee, which belongs to the Vorpommern-Rügen district. Hiddensee is car-free, making the run a special experience: instead of traffic noise, wind, seagulls, and the vast island landscape shape the atmosphere. The start is at the sports field in Vitte, the central location on the island.
Courses for Everyone
The Hiddenseelauf offers distances for different performance levels:
- Half marathon over 21.1 km
- Fun run over 12.5 km
- Volkswandern (popular hike) over 12.5 km
- Bambini run over 800 m for the youngest participants
Thus, the run is aimed at ambitious runners as well as families and recreational athletes.
A Tradition of Over 25 Years
The island run traditionally takes place on the last Saturday in April and looks back on a history of more than 25 years. It is organised by the municipality of Seebad Insel Hiddensee. Over the years, the run has become a regular meeting point for locals, island guests, and running groups from Vorpommern.
Spring Experience by the Sea
For many, the Hiddenseelauf marks the start of the sporting season in spring. The combination of island landscape, Baltic Sea air, and family atmosphere makes the event a popular date in the region's calendar.
