Traditional island run on the car-free Baltic Sea island of Hiddensee
The Hiddenseelauf takes runners across the Baltic Sea island of Hiddensee, which belongs to the Vorpommern-Rügen district. Hiddensee is car-free, making the run a special experience: instead of traffic noise, wind, seagulls, and the vast island landscape shape the atmosphere. The start is at the sports field in Vitte, the central location on the island.

The island run traditionally takes place on the last Saturday in April and looks back on a history of more than 25 years. It is organised by the municipality of Seebad Insel Hiddensee. Over the years, the run has become a regular meeting point for locals, island guests, and running groups from Vorpommern.
For many, the Hiddenseelauf marks the start of the sporting season in spring. The combination of island landscape, Baltic Sea air, and family atmosphere makes the event a popular date in the region's calendar.
For the 28th time, the Hiddenseelauf invites participants to the car-free Baltic Sea island of Hiddensee on April 25, 2026. The start and finish are at the sports field in Vitte.
Participants can choose between several distances: a half marathon over 21.1 km, a fun run over 12.5 km, a popular hike over 12.5 km, and a Bambini run over 800 m. Registration is possible on the day of the event from 9 am on site.
The run takes place on the car-free island of Hiddensee – a running experience far from traffic, with views of the Baltic Sea and the Bodden landscape.
Entry fees: Half marathon around 12 Euros, fun run and popular hike around 10 Euros each, Bambini run free. Registration on the day of the event from 9 am.
Hiddensee is car-free and can only be reached by ferry, mainly from Schaprode on Rügen and from Stralsund. From Vitte harbour, it is a few minutes' walk to the sports field.
Registration is possible on the day of the event from 9 am. The entry fees are around 12 Euros for the half marathon, around 10 Euros each for the fun run and popular hike; the Bambini run is free.
As Hiddensee is car-free, travel and ferry times should be planned well in advance. Weather-appropriate clothing is recommended for the island event.
