One of the longest Rose Monday parades in the Lower Rhine region, right in the heart of Dülken
On Rose Monday, February 16, 2026, at 1:11 PM, the Dülken Rose Monday Parade will set off — one of the longest carnival parades in the Lower Rhine region. The district of Dülken in the city of Viersen is a carnival stronghold in the Viersen district, and the Rose Monday parade is the big carnival highlight of the weekend.
The parade starts on Lange Straße, turns into Theodor-Frings-Allee, follows Venloer Straße, and ends at the Alter Markt in Dülken — the central carnival stage of the district. The entire route is lined with spectators in good weather, with classic carnival cheers, candy throws, dance troupes, and floats.
Viersen is one of the central carnival strongholds in the Lower Rhine region — numerous parades take place in the city area and the Viersen district:
The Dülken Rose Monday Parade is part of the top program for these carnival days.
The district of Dülken (approx. 14,000 inhabitants), part of the city of Viersen, cherishes a long carnival tradition. The "Alte Markt" is the carnival center: after the parade, the whole town gathers here for the carnival celebration, with live music and refreshments. The customs are deeply rooted — carnival clubs, dance troupes, men's choirs, and carnival jesters shape the weekend.
The Carnival in the Lower Rhine region differs from the Carnival in Cologne and Düsseldorf: it is organized on a smaller scale and is more village-oriented. Instead of a mega-parade in a big city, there are many decentralized parades in districts and smaller towns. This structure makes the Lower Rhine Carnival more personal and community-focused — and Dülken, in particular, is a prime example of this tradition: grown organically, networked, with its own carnival identity beyond the Cologne-Düsseldorf axis.
The district town of Viersen, with around 75,000 inhabitants, is located in the Viersen district in western North Rhine-Westphalia, directly on the border with the Netherlands. With its nine districts, Viersen is a sprawling medium-sized city — and carnival maintains its own character in each district.
The city of Viersen will publish the exact closure times and bus route diversions on viersen.de before the event. From approx. 12:00 PM, the streets along the parade route will be closed to traffic.
On the Alter Markt in Dülken, the central carnival festivities take place after the parade — live music, stage program, refreshments. Carnival clubs and dance troupes participate.
