32nd edition of the largest Lower Rhine children's city festival with LEGO exhibition and patron Mirja Boes
While many city festivals claim to be "family-friendly," the Dülkener Kindertag flips the script: it's not a festival for everyone that also considers children — it's a festival conceived entirely from a child's perspective. The historic center of Dülken becomes an accessible playground, offering activities for every age from toddlers to 14-year-olds, with accompanying adults primarily there to pay for ice cream and hold hands. 2026 marks the 32nd edition — the Kindertag has achieved generational status in Dülken.
The effort involved is immense: over 100 clubs, institutions, and initiatives are registered for 2026 — schools, kindergartens, sports clubs, church communities, social initiatives, carnival clubs, fire departments, police, and youth work organizations. Each provider operates a stand or offers an activity. The variety ranges from simple craft tables and hands-on sports stations to elaborate constructions like the survival course or the water walk.
A new highlight for 2026: an extensive LEGO exhibition featuring two stars: the Dülken Narrenmühle as a detailed LEGO model by Viersen artist Marc Hahn — the iconic mill, a symbol of Dülken, recreated in thousands of colorful bricks — and a large Superman diorama by Sven Comeyne. LEGO fans of all ages will find something to enjoy, and for many children, this exhibition alone is a reason to travel.
Comedian and singer Mirja Boes, born in Viersen, takes on the patronage for the Kindertag in 2026 — a connection that has been symbolically important for years. Mirja Boes will also perform in the Viersen Festhalle on the evening of June 14 — so those spending the day with children in Dülken can end the evening without them in Viersen.
The Kindertag is organized by the DülkenBüro in cooperation with the Stiftung Fundación für Kinder (Foundation for Children), with support from the City of Viersen. Applications for exhibitor stands are handled via duelken.de. The volunteer-led structure explains the low or non-existent entry and activity fees — the Kindertag is deliberately designed as a socially accessible family event.
The 32nd edition introduces a new visual focus with the LEGO exhibition. The Dülken Narrenmühle made of bricks is a tribute to the district's landmark, complemented by Sven Comeyne's Superman diorama. As always, the children's activities are central — movement, crafts, and interaction.
