Carnivalesque Rose Monday parade through the Viersen district — February 16, 2026, 10:11 AM
The Rosenmontagszug Süchteln is one of the best-known and largest carnival parades in the Viersen district. Süchteln, one of the four districts of the city of Viersen, has preserved its independent carnival identity — the Rose Monday parade is the highlight of the "fifth season" in the district.
Rose Monday, February 16, 2026. Parade start: 10:11 AM — the symbolic carnival time "11 past 10," which reflects the significance of the number eleven in Rhenish Carnival (Elferrat, November 11 as the start of the season).
The parade follows a large loop through the district:
The streets are closed to traffic during the parade; residents and guests line the routes.
Participants include the Süchteln Carnival Societies and friendly clubs from the region:
Classic Rhenish throwing items: Kamelle (candies and sweets), Strüßjer (small bouquets of flowers — usually in a spring look), plush toys, chocolate, small toys. Those who manage to catch a plush toy or a flower are particularly delighted.
The Lower Rhine Carnival subtly differs from Cologne Carnival — somewhat less mass-market, but with a strong club structure and local identity. Süchteln is not Cologne, but that's part of its charm: fewer tourist crowds, more neighborhood atmosphere, more "Helau" and "Alaaf" with friends and family.
Viersen is a medium-sized city with around 76,000 inhabitants in the Viersen district on the Lower Rhine. Süchteln is located in the north of the city and has retained its village and small-town structure to this day. Carnival tradition is one of its hallmarks.
