46 Years of Tradition on Father's Day
The Grafenau Father's Day Market is one of the largest and best-known Volksfests (popular festivals) in the Böblingen district. Every year on Ascension Day, the center of Döffingen — the largest of the three districts of the municipality of Grafenau in the Heckengäu region — transforms into a huge market area with craft stalls, flea market stands, music, and Swabian conviviality. In 2026, the market will celebrate its 46th edition and will take place on Thursday, May 14, 2026.
85 Commercial Stalls and 15 Flea Market Stalls
The market area extends across the entire Döffingen town center and includes Maichinger Straße, Kurze Gasse, Brandstraße, Wittumstraße, Hirschplan, and the street Bei den Linden. Here you will find:
- 85 commercial stalls offering household goods, clothing, jewelry, handicrafts, toys, sweets, and specialties
- 15 flea market stalls with antiques, bric-a-brac, and second-hand items
- Cargo bike tour by the Böblingen District Office in the Dätzinger Straße parking garage — free for all cyclists
Stall fees are €7 per meter for commercial vendors and €2 per meter for flea market traders. Registration deadline is the end of March each year.
Eve of the Festival with Keg Tapping
The Father's Day Market traditionally opens on the eve, Wednesday, May 13, 2026, at 6:00 PM: Mayor Martin Thüringer will tap the first keg at the Music Association's tent. The market itself is already open on Wednesday evening from 5 PM to 10 PM, with the main market day following on Thursday from 9 AM to 6 PM. Club operations (festival tent, catering) remain active until 10 PM.
Music and Catering by Local Clubs
Musical entertainment is provided by the Grafenau Music Association with various guest bands — typical South German brass band music, folk music, and festival music in the tent. The local clubs are responsible for the catering: Bratwurst, steaks, fries, Swabian specialties like Maultaschen or Kässpätzle, along with cake and coffee in the afternoon. In Döffingen, Father's Day is traditionally a family day — fathers are treated, children explore the flea market, and the club stands are busy all day long.
Grafenau in the Heckengäu
The municipality of Grafenau (approx. 7,500 inhabitants) is located in the Böblingen district, about 20 kilometers west of Stuttgart in the Heckengäu, a gentle hilly landscape between Schönbuch and the Northern Black Forest. It consists of the three districts Döffingen, Dätzingen, and Berkheim. Döffingen is the most populous district and the venue for the Father's Day Market — historically known for the Battle of Döffingen in 1388. Its location on the Heckengäuer Spargelweg (Asparagus Route) and near the Hesse town of Calw also makes the market an attraction for day-trippers from the entire Stuttgart region.

The 2026 edition seamlessly continues the decades-long tradition of the Grafenau Father's Day Market. Once again, in its 46th edition, 85 commercial stalls and 15 flea market stalls will line the streets of Döffingen town center — Maichinger Straße, Kurze Gasse, Brandstraße, Wittumstraße, Hirschplan, and Bei den Linden will become a grand market stage.
The Grafenau Music Association will provide musical entertainment in the festival tent with various guest bands, and local clubs will offer Swabian specialties, steaks, bratwurst, and cakes. The Böblingen District Office is organizing a cargo bike tour on the Dätzinger Straße parking deck (9 AM–6 PM) — free testing of all common cargo bike models.

Getting There
By car: via L 1183 or L 1184, parking available around the town center and in the Dätzinger Straße parking garage. By public transport: Bus 753 from Böblingen/Sindelfingen train station or from Calw. Please note: on market days, the streets in the Döffingen town center are closed — follow signs to visitor parking.

Come early — the best flea market bargains are found between 9 AM and 11 AM. Those who want to enjoy the market atmosphere and live brass band music should come in the afternoon to the Music Association's festival tent. Combine your visit with a short hike in the Heckengäu — Schönbuchhöhe and the Schwippetalradweg (cycle path) are less than ten kilometers away.
