Traditional village festival at the historic Kelterplatz in the Enzkreis district
Gräfenhausen is a small but traditional district of Birkenfeld, belonging to the Enzkreis. The centrepiece of the village is the historic Kelter — the former wine press building, which today serves as an event space and a meeting point for neighbours. This is where the local clubs organise the annual Gräfenhausen Village Festival, which will take place on the weekend of July 4th and 5th, 2026.
The Kelter is not by chance the festival site: Gräfenhausen is located on the southern edge of the historic wine-growing region of the Würmtal. Wine was pressed in the village until the 20th century, and the Kelter was the most important communal economic building for centuries. Today, it is a community centre, club hub, and festival site all in one — a transitional function typical of many Swabian village cultural buildings.
The festival runs on Saturday and Sunday with a classic village festival program: catering stands from clubs in Gräfenhausen and neighbouring Obernhausen, live music with local bands, a family program with an afternoon for children, and above all: neighbourly encounters. Visitors to the festival meet acquaintances, eat bratwurst and potato salad, listen to brass band music, and watch the summer arrive in the village.
The catering is provided by the clubs themselves — sports club, music club, fire brigade association, women's choir, and others. The menu features classic Swabian festival dishes: bratwurst with rolls, Maultaschen, Kässpätzle, fries, cake, and coffee in the afternoon. The beer stand offers regional beer, along with Swabian wines and apple juice.
Birkenfeld is located in the southern Enzkreis, at the transition between the Black Forest and Schönbuch. The municipality comprises the districts of Birkenfeld, Gräfenhausen, and Obernhausen, with a total of around 10,200 inhabitants. Its location between Pforzheim, Karlsruhe, and Stuttgart makes the municipality economically attractive, while the active club life secures the village culture in the smaller districts. The village festival in Gräfenhausen is one of the most important communal events in the district.
The Gräfenhausen Village Festival 2026 runs on Saturday, July 4th, and Sunday, July 5th, 2026, around the historic Kelter in the Birkenfeld district. The local clubs from Gräfenhausen and neighbouring Obernhausen are organising the festival — catering stands, live music with brass bands and local bands, a family program, and a classic Swabian festival atmosphere.
As is customary for village festivals in the Enzkreis, admission is free. Proceeds from catering go to club activities. A detailed program will be published shortly via the website of the municipality of Birkenfeld and the local clubs.
