A Festival with Conviction

The Tollwood Summer Festival is one of Germany's largest and best-known cultural festivals. Since 1988, it has occupied the southern part of Munich's Olympic Park in the summer, attracting hundreds of thousands of visitors each year. Admission to the festival grounds and the 'Market of Ideas' is free, as are around 90 percent of all events – from street theatre and walk-acts to cabaret and hands-on activities for the whole family.

Culture, Market, and Consciousness

Tollwood is more than just a concert festival: it is a platform for environmental, human rights, and democracy issues. At the Market of Ideas, artisans from around 20 countries present sustainable products, recycling and upcycling fashion, jewellery, and design. All catering is consistently organic-certified. Each festival is dedicated to a specific theme that runs through activities, installations, and the cultural programme.

The Music Arena

The heart of the musical programme is the Music Arena, a large tent where ticketed concerts take place every festival evening. International legends meet newcomers, pop meets punk, folk meets Schlager, and Bavarian music. A Tollwood speciality is the double concerts, where two acts perform together on one evening.

Location and Atmosphere

The festival grounds are located in the southern Olympic Park between the Olympic Mountain and the Olympic Lake, easily accessible by U-Bahn and tram. Long summer evenings, light installations, food stalls, and the open, family-friendly atmosphere make Tollwood a firm fixture in Munich's cultural calendar.

Tollwood Summer — edition 2026

The Tollwood Summer Festival 2026 runs from June 19 to July 19 in the southern Olympic Park. The festival's theme focuses on the reclamation of empathy. The Music Arena will host 32 concerts, alongside a free cultural programme, the Market of Ideas, and organic-certified gastronomy.

From June 19 to July 19, 2026, the southern Olympic Park will once again be transformed into the Tollwood festival grounds. For the 2026 edition, the theme of empathy and compassion takes centre stage.
