Munich's big summer festival for culture, concerts, and consciousness in the Olympic Park
The Tollwood Summer Festival is one of Germany's largest and best-known cultural festivals. Since 1988, it has occupied the southern part of Munich's Olympic Park in the summer, attracting hundreds of thousands of visitors each year. Admission to the festival grounds and the 'Market of Ideas' is free, as are around 90 percent of all events – from street theatre and walk-acts to cabaret and hands-on activities for the whole family.
Tollwood is more than just a concert festival: it is a platform for environmental, human rights, and democracy issues. At the Market of Ideas, artisans from around 20 countries present sustainable products, recycling and upcycling fashion, jewellery, and design. All catering is consistently organic-certified. Each festival is dedicated to a specific theme that runs through activities, installations, and the cultural programme.
The heart of the musical programme is the Music Arena, a large tent where ticketed concerts take place every festival evening. International legends meet newcomers, pop meets punk, folk meets Schlager, and Bavarian music. A Tollwood speciality is the double concerts, where two acts perform together on one evening.
The festival grounds are located in the southern Olympic Park between the Olympic Mountain and the Olympic Lake, easily accessible by U-Bahn and tram. Long summer evenings, light installations, food stalls, and the open, family-friendly atmosphere make Tollwood a firm fixture in Munich's cultural calendar.
From June 19 to July 19, 2026, the southern Olympic Park will once again be transformed into the Tollwood festival grounds. For the 2026 edition, the theme of empathy and compassion takes centre stage. Around 90 percent of the cultural and market programme remains free, while the 32 concerts in the Music Arena are ticketed.
The line-up ranges from international legends and pop and rock stars to Bavarian and Austrian artists. Numerous dates were in high demand during the pre-sale, with several concerts selling out months in advance.
A total of 32 concerts until July 19. Confirmed acts include Deep Purple, Sex Pistols (feat. Frank Carter, 50th Anniversary), Rick Astley, Anastacia (in a double concert with Marla Glen), Joss Stone & Emeli Sandé (double concert), Brad Paisley (exclusive Germany concert), Jovanotti, ZAZ, Foreigner, Schmidbauer & Kälberer, as well as Bavarian and Austrian acts like Sportfreunde Stiller, LaBrassBanda, Wolfgang Ambros, Rainhard Fendrich, Haindling, Melissa Naschenweng, and Oimara. A Tollwood speciality is the double concerts featuring two acts on one evening. Exact individual dates and the full cultural and theatre programme will be published on the official Tollwood website.
