Unkel is located at the transition between the Siebengebirge in the north and the Middle Rhine Valley in the south, on the right bank of the Rhine opposite Remagen. The hiking opportunities range from the towpath along the Rhine and through the vineyards to the wooded slopes of the Westerwald. The Rheinsteig and Westerwaldsteig trails are present here. Getting There
Unkel is located on the right bank of the Rhine between Bad Honnef and Bad Hönningen, accessible via the B 42 federal road and the right-bank railway line (Unkel station).
Recommendations
Sturdy hiking boots, rain gear depending on the weather, a water bottle, and snacks are advisable. Poles may be useful for longer tours.
