Largest Rosenmontag parade in Saxony-Anhalt with 70 floats and 1,300 participants
Carnival in Saxony-Anhalt is less folklore than in the Rhineland — and that's precisely what makes the Halle Rosenmontag parade so special. With over 1,300 participants, 70 floats, and 35 walking groups, it's the largest of its kind in the state. The organizer is the Halle-Saalkreis Karneval Verein e.V. (HSKV), which has developed this format since the early 1990s. In 2026, the HSKV celebrates its 35th anniversary — the Rosenmontag celebration will be correspondingly grand.
Halle's carnival has its own battle cry: not just "Helau," but "Hallas — Helau!" It's a declaration of love for the city, for the carnival association of Saxony-Anhalt, and for the small but proud Fasching (carnival) tradition between the Saale and Mansfelder Land. The parade starts punctually at 11:11 AM on Burgstraße, passes through the market square, and returns to its starting point after several kilometers through the city center.
Floats from all over the Saalekreis, Mansfelder Land, and Halle — associations, schools, companies, and political initiatives come up with themes that poke fun at the past year. There's plenty of throwing material (Kamelle [sweets], Strüßje [small bouquets], chocolates). With live music on some floats and constant dance performances by the walking groups, the parade is a moving festival. After the parade, the festivities continue in the town hall and in the Halloren cafés in the city center.
Halle's carnival tradition is modest but growing. The HSKV unites several carnival associations from Halle and the Saalekreis under one roof and also coordinates gala sessions, children's carnival, and the crowning of the prince and princess. In the state of Saxony-Anhalt, the kreisfreie Stadt Halle (Saale), the Rosenmontag parade is a must-attend event of the fifth season for carnival fans from Magdeburg, Leipzig, and the Mansfelder Land.
On Rosenmontag, February 16, 2026, the Halle Rosenmontag parade took place for the HSKV's 35th anniversary. The club's website looked back: "What an unforgettable Rosenmontag in Halle!" Over 1,300 carnival participants and tens of thousands of spectators lined the city center.
Participants: 70 floats, 35 walking groups, over 1,300 carnival participants from Halle, Saalekreis, and Mansfelder Land.
