Eleven summer evenings with music, readings, and dance on the Marktplatz Halle
Im Sommer nach 8 is Halle's most open open-air format: no ticket, no barrier, no headliner marketing. From August 6th to 16th, 2026, cultural life will unfold on Marktplatz Halle — under the Roter Turm and in front of the Marktkirche, two of the most defining landmarks of the Handel city. Every evening from 8 PM, an event: concert, reading, dance, or theatre. The City of Halle and the city marketing cooperate with local cultural organizers to extend the summer weeks a little further.
You come, grab a drink from one of the bars, find a deckchair or a spot on the steps — and let the evening begin. The programming changes daily: today a singer-songwriter from Halle, tomorrow a radio play format by a local theatre, the day after a jazz trio and a reading. Focus: Halle artists. The format deliberately avoids copying large stages, instead aiming to breathe new life into the market square after business hours.
Marktplatz Halle is one of the most beautiful city squares in Central Germany. The Roter Turm from the 15th century, the late Gothic Marktkirche Unser Lieben Frauen, the Handel monument — all within sight. Sitting here, one automatically looks into 800 years of city history. Halle, the birthplace of Georg Friedrich Handel, in the state of Saxony-Anhalt, a district-free city (Halle (Saale)), uses this backdrop for a format that aims to be more of a city living room than a festival.
Families in the early evening, then students and city dwellers, later in the evening more locals. It's not a mass event, but rather relaxed — the charm comes from the mix of programming, summer evening light, and the fact that everything is free and accessible without registration.
Im Sommer nach 8 2026 runs for eleven consecutive days. The exact daily program will be published from the end of July on halle365.de and verliebtinhalle.de. Each day offers a curated event focusing on Halle's cultural creators — from singer-songwriters to dance companies and theatre readings.
The exact artist program will be published at the end of July 2026.
