Karnevalsumzug Diez – Dreierbund Carnival Parade

The Karnevalsumzug Diez is one of the jester highlights in the Rhein-Lahn district. It is organised by the Dreierbund – an association of the most important Diez carnival clubs, who pool their strengths for the grand parade.

The 2026 carnival kick-off traditionally begins on Shrove Thursday, 12 February 2026, at 11:11 AM with the storming of the castle at Oranienstein Castle. The jesters symbolically take power in the castle – a ritual that corresponds to Rhenish tradition and at the same time gives the Diez carnival a special place.

The main parade takes place on Shrove Sunday, 15 February 2026, from 2:11 PM. Hundreds of participants in floats, walking groups, guards, and with music bands march through the city centre of Diez. Thousands of spectators line the route, colourfully costumed, with shouts of "Helau", with bags for the candy, with the anticipation that has shaped carnival Sundays for generations.

After the parade, the festivities continue with the after-party in the market square and Marktstraße. Stages, DJs, live music, stalls with bratwurst and drinks ensure that the Sunday remains lively into the evening hours.

The Diez carnival shows: Even in the Lahn Valley, which is not counted among the classic Rhenish carnival strongholds, the fifth season is celebrated with great commitment and high participation.
