One of the world's longest-running free music festivals in the Olympic Park
The Theatron Musik-Sommer is a free open-air festival in Munich's Olympic Park. The venue is the lake stage in the amphitheater at the Olympic Lake. Munich is the capital of Bavaria and is located in the Upper Bavaria administrative region. Theatron is one of the world's longest-running free music festivals and has been held since the early 1970s.
The Theatron Musik-Sommer sees itself as a platform for promising and established bands and solo artists from Munich. Over several weeks in August, acts perform daily on the lake stage – with free admission for everyone.
The program covers a wide spectrum: Jazz, Pop, Rock, HipHop, Classical, and World Music. This diversity makes Theatron a cross-section of Munich's music scene and a meeting point for a broad, intergenerational audience.
The festival is coordinated by the Cultural Department and Social Department of the City of Munich, Feierwerk e.V., and the JFF Media Centre, supported by Olympiapark München GmbH. Theatron takes place parallel to the Olympic Park's summer festival.
The unique setting of the Olympic Lake, the amphitheater, and the Olympic Park makes Theatron a fixture of Munich's summer cultural scene – accessible, diverse, and free for decades.
