One of Düsseldorf's oldest brotherhoods celebrates its Schützenfest at Kellnerei Angermund – with historically costumed parades and F4 fireworks.
Angermund is part of District 5 in northern Düsseldorf and, with its approximately 6,800 inhabitants, is one of the state capital's smaller but most historic districts. First documented in 1188, Angermund was an independent municipality for centuries, complete with a moated castle and electoral-Bavarian administration. Today, the historic village center around St. Agnes parish church, Angermund Castle, and the Kellnerei defines the landscape – with the Schützenfest of the St. Sebastianus-Bruderschaft at its heart.
The St. Sebastianus-Bruderschaft Angermund von 1511 e.V. is among the oldest shooting fraternities on the Lower Rhine. Founded in the early 16th century, its origins predate the Reformation, and it is organizationally affiliated with the Federation of Historical German Shooting Fraternities. The fraternity upholds both the Christian patronage of St. Sebastian – the patron saint of shooters, police officers, and soldiers – and Angermund's village community traditions.
The Angermund Schützenfest is a classic Rhineland fraternity festival with its own unique character – smaller and more historical than the major Düsseldorf city center events, but with a special tradition.
The venue is the Kellnerei Angermund at Graf-Engelbert-Straße 72. This former electoral administrative building – the "Kellnerei" was used to manage in-kind contributions – now serves as the fraternity's catering and festival location. The festival tent, bar, and the grand fireworks display are staged in the immediate vicinity of the historic building.
Düsseldorf is one of North Rhine-Westphalia's major Schützenfest cities. Within the city limits alone, there are over twenty active Schützen- and Sebastianus-fraternities – from the traditional Niederkassel Brotherhood of 1890 and the St. Hubertus Shooting Society in Hamm to fraternities in Heerdt, Oberkassel, Lörick, and Volmerswerth. Angermund, with its 500 years of fraternity tradition, is the oldest – and northernmost – of these fraternities in the state capital.
The fraternity stages the 2026 festival following a classic schedule: a parade on Saturday afternoon, the King's Shoot in the festival tent, the King's Ball in the evening, and a fireworks display around 9 PM. The fraternity, founded in 1511, is one of the oldest on the Lower Rhine – the festival has preserved its essential elements over the centuries.
The parade and fireworks display are freely accessible. Tickets for the King's Ball in the festival tent are issued by the fraternity.
Take the S6 train (Cologne–Essen) to Düsseldorf-Angermund (station within the district), then a five-minute walk to the Kellnerei. By car, take the A52 (exit Düsseldorf-Stockum) or A524, then the B8 to Angermund. Parking in the district is limited; Park & Ride at the train station is recommended.
The parade, festival grounds, and fireworks display are free to attend. Tickets for the King's Ball in the festival tent are issued by the fraternity.
Festival tent with bar service, bratwurst, fries, and snack classics at the Kellnerei. Cash is recommended.
The F4 category fireworks display (professional grand fireworks) is launched around 9 PM – secure spots with a clear view of the Kellnerei garden early. Families with small children: Bring ear protection for the fireworks.
