St. Franziskus Church and the Großenbaum District
The venue for the festival church service is St. Franziskus Church Großenbaum – a modern Catholic church closely connected to the marksmen's fraternity. The Saarner Straße festival grounds are just a few minutes' walk away – a classic fraternity site with a festival tent and bird shooting range.
Duisburg-Großenbaum — District in Southern Duisburg
Großenbaum is a district in southern Duisburg (District South), with around 14,000 inhabitants, characterized by the lifestyle south of the Ruhr core. Here, there's less of a steel industry identity and more of a bourgeois residential area with active club life. The St. Hubertus Schützenbruderschaft, with its 115-year history, is one of the oldest and largest district clubs. The fraternity, the church community, and local gastronomy have shaped the Schützenfest over generations – an identity marker for Großenbaum.
Fraternity, Tradition, Community
The fraternity describes its festival as a "mix of tradition, fun, and community". This is more than marketing: Schützenfeste are a central link for intergenerational club structures in southern Duisburg. Anyone who grew up in Großenbaum very likely has a connection to the Schützenfest – active or passive.
