Craft Beer in the Ruhr Area

Duisburg has a long brewing tradition—and since 2025, its own beer festival, positioning the city on the Rhine as a hotspot for craft beer in the Ruhr area. The 2nd edition took place from Friday, April 24 to Saturday, April 25, 2026, at the Handwerkerhof Wanheimerort, the historic site of the former Rheingold Brauerei. An autumn edition will follow at the same location from October 2 to 4, 2026, this time hosted directly by the Rheingold Brauerei.

The Spring Edition, April 2026

• Dates: Friday, April 24 and Saturday, April 25, 2026
• Time: 2:00 PM to 10:00 PM on both days
• Location: Handwerkerhof Wanheimerort, Düsseldorfer Straße 387, 47055 Duisburg (Duisburg-Wanheimerort)
• Weatherproof: Stalls and seating located inside the Rheingold Brauerei hall

The Autumn Edition, October 2–4, 2026

The autumn edition is hosted by the Rheingold Brauerei itself, once again at the Handwerkerhof Wanheimerort. Confirmed breweries include Rheingold Brauerei, Hopacabana, Buddelship, and Lieberwaldi, with more to be announced. In addition to craft beer, there will be street food from various food trucks. Over 20 Breweries in April — High-End Craft Beer

At the spring edition in April 2026, more than 20 local and international breweries presented their beers. The range included:

• Classic German styles: Pilsner, Helles, Wheat beer, Kölsch, Altbier
• Craft beer classics: IPA, NEIPA, Pale Ale, Stout, Porter
• Specialties: Sours (Berliner Weisse, Gose, Lambic), Barrel-Aged, Imperial Stouts
• Non-alcoholic alternatives: Non-alcoholic craft beers and sodas from local producers

Admission included a tasting glass, allowing visitors to sample beers at all stalls.

Street Food, Cocktails, and Wine

Several food trucks offer the perfect accompaniment to your beer: burgers, pulled pork, bratwurst, vegan bowls, vegetarian wraps, fries, and sweets. Cocktails, wine, and non-alcoholic drinks are also available—it is an inclusive festival, not just for beer purists.

Token System and Card Payments

The festival operates on a token system: €1 and €2 coins can be purchased separately and are accepted at all stalls. Additionally, stalls accept card payments. Free water stations are available throughout the venue.

The Handwerkerhof Wanheimerort

The Handwerkerhof Wanheimerort is a historic industrial site belonging to the former Rheingold Brauerei in the south of Duisburg. Today, it houses workshops, studios, and event spaces—providing the ideal backdrop for a beer festival with its brewing history, industrial charm, and a weather-protected hall.

Duisburg — Industrial Culture on the Rhine

With over 500,000 inhabitants, Duisburg is one of the largest cities in the Ruhr area, located at the confluence of the Rhine and Ruhr rivers. Known for the largest inland port in Europe, the Landschaftspark Duisburg-Nord, and the MSV Duisburg football club. The beer festival fits perfectly with the Ruhr area's culture: industrial, rustic, and sociable.
