Free family festival around the Blue House in Duisburg's Hochfeld district with stage program and new talent section
When the sun reaches Hochfeld again in spring — the densely populated district between Duisburg Central Station and the Rheinpark — a neighborhood festival opens in Immendaler Park, which exemplifies community work in a challenging but vibrant Duisburg quarter. The 12th Immendaler Parkfest on Tuesday, May 19, 2026, from 3 PM to 7 PM carries the motto "Hochfeld Connects" in 2026.
The center of the festival is the Blue House at Sedanstraße 64 — a community center offering advice, social interaction, and creative activities, which has been supporting community life in Hochfeld for years. The adjacent Immendaler Park provides space for a stage, stalls, and play areas. The concept of the park festival: free, low-threshold, accessible to all families in the district.
The motto "Hochfeld Connects" reflects the diversity of the district. Local dance and acrobatics groups perform on stage — many with migration backgrounds, reflecting Hochfeld's intercultural character. Live music complements the stage program. New in 2026 is the "Hochfelder Talente" section — an open stage where young artists from the district present their contributions. In addition, there are creative stations, games, and hands-on activities for children.
Hochfeld is located between the main train station and the Rhine, south of the city center. With around 19,000 inhabitants and one of the highest proportions of migrants in Duisburg, the district is considered socially challenging — and at the same time culturally extremely diverse. Turkish, Kurdish, Bulgarian, Romanian, Arab, and German families share the streets. The park festival is one of the symbols with which the neighborhood presents itself to the outside world: not through problems, but through what is possible here together.
If you come with children: the Immendaler Parkfest is explicitly a family festival. Four hours of program, free of charge, no admission fee, no pressure to consume. The stage performances are short and engaging, and the play stations are low-threshold. Food and drinks are available on-site from stalls run by local associations.
The press office of the City of Duisburg announced this year's park festival in an official press release in May 2026, confirming both the date (May 19, 2026) and the times (3–7 PM) and the new motto "Hochfeld Connects". This documents the 12th edition since 2014.
