Free & outdoors on the Seebühne in Olympiapark – for the 25th anniversary
The Theatron Pfingstfestival is one of Munich's most famous free open-air festivals. The venue is the Seebühne in Olympiapark – an open-air stage built into the Olympiasee lake, which becomes a meeting point for Munich's subculture at Pentecost. The premiere took place in June 2000, initiated by the Jugendkulturwerk München, which organises the festival to this day.
The idea from the outset was simple and radical at the same time: a three-day music festival on the Seebühne, accessible to everyone, with no admission fee, no commercialisation, and a programme deliberately curated off the beaten track. In 25 years, the festival has only paused twice – during the fan festival for the 2006 Football World Cup, when the Seebühne was occupied elsewhere, and during the pandemic years of 2020 and 2021.
For the 25th anniversary, there's a particularly packed programme: 15 live acts over three evenings, five per evening, from 5 PM to 10 PM. The spectrum ranges from pop to rap and punk to subculture. Among the confirmed acts is Munich rapper Ebow, one of the most sought-after voices in German-language rap. The festival traditionally takes place on the Pentecost weekend.
Munich's Olympiapark, built for the 1972 Summer Olympics, is one of the landmarks of the Bavarian capital. The Theatron Pfingstfestival uses this backdrop to give young and independent artists a stage. As a project of the Munich City Youth Welfare Office, it stands for low-threshold cultural work: music for everyone, freely accessible, right in the heart of the city. For the Munich festival scene in the state of Bavaria, it is an indispensable start to the festival summer.
The Theatron Pfingstfestival 2026 takes place from May 23 to 25 over the Pentecost weekend on the Seebühne in Olympiapark, celebrating its 25th anniversary. For this milestone, there's a particularly packed programme: 15 live acts over three evenings, five per evening, from 5 PM to 10 PM, spanning pop, rap, punk, and subculture. Among the confirmed acts is Munich rapper Ebow (May 23, 9 PM). As since 2000, admission is free; the organiser is Jugendkulturwerk München as a project of the City Youth Welfare Office.
The Seebühne is located in Munich's Olympiapark. Travel by U-Bahn line U3 (Olympiazentrum) or by tram/bus. By car via the Mittlerer Ring; parking is available at Olympiapark, but travelling by public transport is recommended.
Admission is free (umsonst & draußen). Food and drinks are sold on-site; donations support the festival.
Programme daily from 5 PM to 10 PM. In case of changeable Pentecost weather, bring waterproof clothing – the Seebühne is an open-air stage.
