Three days of food trucks, cross-over cuisine, and street food tapas at Das Liebig
Aachen, Germany's westernmost major city, situated in the tri-border area between Germany, Belgium, and the Netherlands, has always been open to culinary influences. Aachener Printen (gingerbread), Belgian fries, Dutch cheese traditions, Mediterranean influences from the international student body at RWTH — the city enjoys worldly cuisine. The Original Street Food Festival fits perfectly into this environment with its motto of "Artisanal quality instead of mass-produced fare".
The venue is the event grounds Das Liebig at Liebigstraße 19 — a former industrial hall that now regularly hosts festivals, concerts, and trade fairs. The raw brick architecture and the surrounding outdoor area provide space for food trucks, seating areas, and pop-up bars. Service is available both indoors and outdoors simultaneously — an advantage in April weather.
The festival brings together over 30 food trucks and stalls. The menu includes, among others:
A new feature for 2026: Street Food Tapas for €6 per portion. The smaller portions are priced so that visitors can try dishes from multiple stalls without getting full after just one burger. Those who want to experience the festival as a curated tasting tour of the street food scene's trends can manage with three or four tapas portions.
The festival is not free: Admission is €4 in advance, €4.90 at the box office. Children under 12 and severely disabled visitors with ID get in for free. Family passes and group discounts may be available. Opening hours: Friday 4 PM-10 PM, Saturday 12 PM-10 PM, Sunday 12 PM-8 PM. Dogs are welcome on a leash.
The Original Street Food Festival is a recurring event series — Aachen traditionally hosts several festival dates each year. The April edition marks the start of spring, followed by summer and autumn editions, each with a changing mix of food trucks. Regular visitors get to know the vendors throughout the season.
For those combining the festival with a weekend in Aachen: the Aachen Cathedral (UNESCO World Heritage site), the Town Hall with its Coronation Hall, the Centre Charlemagne, the Carolus Thermen thermal baths, and the Belgian border villages are within easy day-trip distance. Aachen is very well connected via the ICE high-speed train line between Cologne and Brussels.
Three days of food truck variety at Das Liebig: artisanal street food specialties from Venezuelan Arepas (Arepa Revolution) to Asian Fusion (Sarti Truck), plus specialty coffee (Schvarz Kaffee), vegan stalls, and the new tapas format for sampling.
