Craft beers from the region at Denkmalplatz Leer
The German craft beer scene has undergone impressive development in recent years. From a niche, it has become a diverse movement that combines the traditional German Purity Law with modern brewing techniques and creative flavors. Bierfest Leer embraces this development and brings diversity to East Frisia.
The Denkmalplatz Leer provides a central, easily accessible backdrop for the beer festival. Its location in the city center ensures good visitor traffic and allows for integration with other city experiences. A festival tent, standing tables, and a small stage structure the event grounds.
The focus is on craft beers from the region. Breweries from East Frisia and surrounding areas — from Emden via Aurich to the Weser Uplands — present their range. The regional roots are an important hallmark: the brewers are often present in person, answer questions, and share knowledge about their beers.
The variety is impressive. Pilseners as classics, Helles and Weizen for traditionalists, Märzen and Bock beers for stronger tastes, hop-heavy IPAs and Pale Ales for lovers of bitter and aromatic hops, dark Stouts and Porters for fans of roasted and coffee notes, as well as experimental beer styles with unusual ingredients like berries or spices.
The format emphasizes tasting culture in a convivial atmosphere. Small glasses allow for trying multiple beer styles without overdoing it. Food stalls serve suitable dishes — from hearty sausage and cheese platters to modern burger creations.
Live bands or DJs provide the musical accompaniment. The program ranges from rock and pop to acoustic sets, creating the perfect mood for three summer festival days.
The 2026 edition continues the format of the regional beer festival. Touristik & Marketing Leer has invited selected breweries from East Frisia and the surrounding regions.
The exact program for 2026 will be published by the organizer in the spring. The structure follows the proven key points:
Denkmalplatz, 26789 Leer (Ostfriesland).
Free admission. Beers, food, and drinks are subject to charge.
