Family Afternoon at City Lake
The Stendal City Lake Children's and Family Festival uses the city's most beautiful outdoor location: the Stadtsee (City Lake), a small park lake surrounded by trees in the heart of Stendal. For over five hours – from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m. – the area transforms into a playground rich in activities and programs for families from the Hanseatic city and the entire Stendal district.
The concept is classic and it works. Play stations for children of different age groups, sports activities offered by local clubs, a stage program with entertainment, dance, and music, plus food stalls with classic festival fare. The organizers – the Hanseatic City of Stendal – work together with local sports clubs, youth associations, and independent children's and youth services.
Stendal is the district capital of the Stendal district, in the state of Saxony-Anhalt, and with over 1,000 years of history, it is one of Germany's oldest Hanseatic cities. The Stadtsee is one of those parks that have been upgraded in recent years with funds from urban development programs – concrete proof that public investment in green spaces directly benefits quality of life.
