KUMUNA – 24th Germersheim Culture and Museum Night

24 Years of KUMUNA

The city of Germersheim, together with local cultural institutions, has been organizing KUMUNA since 2001. What began as an experimental format to network the local cultural scene is now an established institution with supra-regional appeal. 24 editions mean 24 years of continuous development of a format that presents the city's culture in concentrated form over one evening.

Over 30 Venues

The venues are spread throughout the entire city center: the fortress museums, the German Street Museum, the Stadthalle, several galleries, artists' studios, churches, businesses with an artistic focus, and association rooms. Each venue hosts its own program – concerts, readings, performances, exhibition openings, film screenings, dance performances, workshops. Visitors decide for themselves which venues to visit.

Fortress City as a Backdrop

Germersheim is an extraordinary fortress city with 19th-century fortifications, partially preserved after demilitarization in 1922. This historical substance shapes KUMUNA: concerts in old vaults, exhibitions in fortress gates, performances in historic squares. The connection between contemporary culture and historical substance is one of the event's hallmarks.

Free Admission – A Cultural Showcase

Admission is free at all venues. This is part of the program's philosophy: culture should be accessible to everyone, and no one should face financial barriers. Food and drinks are available for purchase at some venues. KUMUNA thus serves as a showcase of Germersheim's culture, involving the entire city and drawing thousands of visitors to the city center.
