Christmas market on the 2nd Advent weekend around Bentheim Castle with around 60 stalls and stage program
Bentheim Castle, one of the most important castle ensembles in northwestern Germany, forms the backdrop for the Christmas market. When the castle walls are illuminated and the first snow falls, a winter atmosphere is created, making the market one of the most beautiful in the region.
The stalls are spread across Rathausplatz, Schloßstraße, and Herrenberg. This arrangement creates a market mile that runs through the historic city center, connecting shop windows, half-timbered houses, and market stalls. With around 60 stalls, the market is one of the larger Advent markets in the Grafschaft Bentheim.
The proximity to the Netherlands is clearly evident at the market. Stroopwafels, pea soup, mulled wine, and Dutch specialties complement the classic German fairground dishes. Langos, Flammkuchen, bratwurst, and candied almonds complete the offerings.
A stage provides a forum for choir and music performances. Brass choirs, children's choirs, and acoustic sets create a pre-Christmas atmosphere and special moments that make the visit more than just a shopping trip.
The market traditionally takes place on the 2nd Advent weekend – from December 4th to 6th, 2026. This complements the regional markets well (Schüttorf 1st Advent, Else am See 3rd Advent), allowing visitors to plan market visits throughout the entire Advent season.
The market is part of a coordinated market network in the Grafschaft Bentheim, where Schüttorf (1st Advent), Bad Bentheim (2nd Advent), and Else am See (3rd Advent) illuminate a different location each weekend.
The complete stage program for 2026 will be published by the City of Bad Bentheim on badbentheim.de.
