About Mondscheinmarkt
Mondscheinmarkt — edition 2026
As in previous years, the Blieskastel city center will transform into a market of lights on Friday evening. Exhibitors from Saarland, neighboring Rhineland-Palatinate, and Lorraine will offer arts and crafts and culinary specialties. Market in the Moonlight
The Mondscheinmarkt Blieskastel is an evening market of a special kind. Instead of opening in the morning, it opens at 5 p.m. and runs until 10 p.m. In the five hours between late afternoon and night, the baroque city center of Blieskastel transforms into a market of lights, illuminated by lanterns, candles, and fairy lights.
What is offered
- Arts and Crafts: Ceramics, glass, woodwork, textiles
- Jewelry: Handmade pieces, often with regional connections
- Decor: Autumn and home decorations
- Culinary Delights: Specialties from Saarland, Rhineland-Palatinate, and Lorraine
- Live Music: Acoustic sets that enhance the atmosphere
The Baroque City of Blieskastel
What makes the Mondscheinmarkt special is its setting. Blieskastel—a medium-sized town in the Saarpfalz district—boasts one of the best-preserved baroque old towns in Saarland: Blieskastel Castle, the Orangery grounds, the historic houses on Luitpoldplatz. The market makes consistent use of this backdrop—the stalls are set up in the alleys, in front of baroque facades, under the old cobblestones.
French-German Border Region
Blieskastel is located in the UNESCO Biosphere Reserve Bliesgau, on the border with Lorraine. Hence the strong presence of French exhibitors: cheese makers from Bitche, vintners from Moselle-Lorraine, Lorraine pastry chefs. The Mondscheinmarkt is also a place where the Saarland-Lorraine border culture becomes visible.
