EAT — DRINK — DANCE on Laurentiusplatz
When the historic Laurentiusplatz in Wuppertal's Elberfeld district is suddenly filled with the aroma of burgers, soul beats, and festival vibes on a May weekend, it's the Street Food & Music Festival in town. From Wednesday, May 13th to Sunday, May 17th, 2026, foodies, families, and after-work crowds spend five days between a culinary world tour and an open-air dance floor — framed by the Laurentiuskirche and the Wilhelminian-era facades of downtown Elberfeld.
Over 20 Food Trucks from Around the World
The heart of the festival is the food trucks lined up around Laurentiusplatz. Between 20 and 25 vendors offer specialties from all over the world:
- North America: Canadian poutine (fries with cheese curds and gravy), classic burgers, BBQ pulled pork
- Asia: Vietnamese Banh Mi, Thai curries, Korean Bibimbap, Japanese Bao
- Mediterranean: Italian pasta, Greek souvlaki, Lebanese mezze
- Africa & Orient: Moroccan tagine, Ethiopian injera, Turkish köfte
- Sweets: Belgian waffles, French crêpes, Dutch poffertjes, Italian gelato
A culinary world tour — without leaving the Wuppertal district.
DJ Stage in the Middle of the Action
Unlike classic street food markets, this format features a real central DJ stage right in the middle of the trucks. DJs take turns from afternoon until late evening — relaxed House and Soul beats during the day, Party Mix with Charts, Urban, Oriental, and House in the evening. The concept works on two levels: a relaxed family street food market during the day, and an after-work party with an open-air dance floor in the evening.
Free Entry — Wuppertal Celebrates Along
Admission is free — you only pay for what you order at the trucks. This makes the festival accessible: families on a budget, as well as after-work crowds, students, or gourmet tourists. Wuppertal locals meet on Laurentiusplatz, known for its relaxed, slightly alternative atmosphere (cafes, bars, second-hand bookshops around the square). During the five festival days, the square becomes the social meeting point for the entire city center.
JUST Festivals — The Street Food Creators from Dortmund
The organizer is JUST Festivals Event Media GmbH from Dortmund, an experienced event organizer that operates the street food festival format across North Rhine-Westphalia — Bochum, Cologne, Düsseldorf, Münster, Krefeld, Moers, Aachen, Velbert, Wuppertal. The format is proven, professionally organized, and logistically well-coordinated. Nevertheless, each city has its own character — in Wuppertal-Elberfeld, it's the mix of alternative downtown atmosphere and festival crowd that shapes the Wuppertal event.
Elberfeld — Wuppertal City Center
The Elberfeld district is one of Wuppertal's two original city centers (the other being Barmen). Laurentiusplatz is located in the western center, around the 19th-century Catholic Laurentiuskirche. The pedestrian zone, the Schauspielhaus theater, and the alternative pub scene in the Luisenviertel alleys are just a few minutes away — perfect for those who want to combine the festival with a walk through Wuppertal.
