Three Centuries of Volksfest Tradition
With over 300 years of tradition, the Saalfeld Volksfest am Weidig is one of the oldest continuously celebrated folk festivals in Thuringia. The 2025 edition was already the 314th. In the medieval town of Saalfeld/Saale, in the Saalfeld-Rudolstadt district on the southern edge of the Thuringian Forest, the Volksfest is an integral part of the midsummer festival calendar.
Classic Showmen's Funfair
For nine days, rides, show stalls, and market stands line up on the Weidig fairgrounds. Showmen from Thuringia, Saxony, Bavaria, and all over Germany bring their attractions:
- Classic Rides — Dodgems, Break-Dance, Twister, Time-Machine
- Children's Rides — Carousels, bouncy castles, smaller rides
- Shooting Galleries, Lottery Stalls, Sweet Stalls
- Food Stalls — Bratwurst, Lángos, Crêpes, Ice Cream, Schmalzgebäck (fried dough pastry)
- Festival Tent with catering and stage program
Stage Program and Family Days
A special feature of the Saalfeld Volksfest is the evening stage programs: live bands, cover artists, and Schlager stars take turns. Special dates such as family days with reduced prices and the traditional opening with a beer tapping ceremony are fixed points in the program. The event concludes with a grand fireworks display on the last Saturday evening.
