About Feelloween
Feelloween — edition 2026
Feelloween 2026 — Halloween in the Fairy Grottos
For years, Feelloween has been a fixed date in the autumn calendar of the Saalfeld Fairy Grottos. The adventure world uses the natural mystical character of the dripstone caves and the fairy tale park for an atmospheric Halloween format that clearly distinguishes itself from commercial Halloween events in big cities. The exact date for 2026 will be published in summer on feengrotten.de — Saalfelder Feengrotten und Tourismus GmbH, as the organizer, is reliable in its program design.

The Feengrotten — a unique natural backdrop
The Saalfeld Fairy Grottos are among Germany's most extraordinary natural wonders. The former alum shale mine in Saalfeld (Saalfeld-Rudolstadt district, Thuringia) was converted into a show cave after mining ceased. The intensely colorful dripstone formations — created by centuries of mineral precipitation — are considered the most colorful show grottos in the world and are listed in the Guinness Book of Records. Above ground lies the Feengrottenpark with a fairy tale forest, healing tunnels, and adventure stations.
Halloween in the dripstone cave
Feelloween uses the natural mystique of the Fairy Grottos for a special kind of Halloween spectacle. While other Halloween events take place in city centers or amusement parks, Feelloween moves the action to a real fairy tale and mining location — with real caves, real forest, real dark passages. This authenticity makes the festival particularly impressive for families with children, who are meant to be not only scared but also amazed.
Program — Horror tours, Witch Urania, Costume contest
Over several days in the late afternoon and evening hours, various stations open: Horror tours through the show mine (suitable for ages 8+ with accompaniment) lead with flashlights through the dripstone cave. In the adventure forest, trees and paths are transformed into another world through mystical light installations. Witch Urania greets the young visitors and distributes surprises. A theater performance in the caves (ages 8+), stage shows, a costume contest with prizes for the scariest and most creative costumes, craft activities, pumpkin decoration, and dance groups round off the program.
Saalfeld — Gateway to the Thuringian Forest and Shale Mountains
Saalfeld is located in southern Thuringia on the Saale river, on the edge of the Thuringian Shale Mountains. The city combines a significant mining and salt trading past with modern tourism centered around the Fairy Grottos. Besides the regular cave operations (April to November) and the Christmas "Lichterglanz" (Gleam of Lights), Feelloween is an important seasonal highlight — the place where parents from the entire Saalfeld-Rudolstadt district and beyond celebrate Halloween with their children.
