14th edition at the "Die Lakai" combined pool — popular triathlon and kids' triathlon for the whole family
The Neunkirchen Triathlon is a popular triathlon in the best sense of the word: not a professional event, but a sports event supported by recreational athletes, clubs, families, and children. Organized by the Neunkirchen Sports Association, it has been held at the "Die Lakai" combined pool since its first edition in 2013 — a family-friendly swimming pool complex on the outskirts of Neunkirchen. The 14th edition in 2026 continues this tradition.
The distances are deliberately chosen to be popular and accessible: 300 m swimming in the combined pool, a 20 km cycling route on public roads around Neunkirchen, and a 5 km running route. This is achievable for ambitious recreational athletes and not as brutal as a middle-distance race. A relay option is also possible — three athletes can share the three disciplines.
A special feature is the parallel kids' triathlon. With age-adjusted distances, children from the age of six are introduced to triathlon:
Entry fee for children: 8 Euros. This makes the kids' triathlon one of the most accessible introductions to triathlon sport in Saarland.
The "Die Lakai" combined pool in Lakaienschäferei on the outskirts of Neunkirchen combines an indoor and an outdoor pool. It is an ideal venue for the triathlon: swimming pool right at the start, parking facilities, restrooms, catering. After the competition, participants can enjoy a swim or relax in the outdoor pool.
Neunkirchen is the district town in the district of Neunkirchen, in eastern Saarland. With about 47,000 inhabitants, the city offers an exceptionally active sports scene — the triathlon is just one of the sports highlights alongside football (Borussia Neunkirchen), athletics, and cycling. The city sees itself as "The City to Live In," and the triathlon fits perfectly into this image.
The Neunkirchen Triathlon is part of the Saarland triathlon calendar under the patronage of the Saarland Triathlon Union (STU). Points count towards the Saarland club rankings, making the triathlon attractive for ambitious club athletes as well.
