One of the largest Rose Monday parades in Southwest Germany with over 100,000 spectators
The Neunkirchen Rose Monday Parade, according to the organizing Neunkirchen Carnival Committee (NKA), is one of the largest parades in the Southwest German region. With well over 100,000 spectators along the route, it is the central Saarland Carnival highlight on Rose Monday—rivaling even the Rhineland's major cities like Mainz or Cologne in visibility, though not in scale.
The parade starts at 2:11 PM in Hermannstraße and proceeds through the Neunkirchen city center via the following route:
Spectators are packed tightly along the entire route—families with children, Carnival fans from all over Saarland and neighboring Palatinate and Lorraine.
The parade includes floats of all sizes, music bands, dance troupes, funken groups, Schoppe-Garden, and walking groups. The floats are built over months, often with elaborate constructions and references to current events. Carnival clubs from the Neunkirchen district and surrounding municipalities are represented, along with guest clubs from Saarland and Palatinate.
Saarland's Carnival—Faasenacht or Fastnacht—maintains its own tradition, distinct from both Rhineland Carnival and Swabian-Alemannic Fastnacht. Neunkirchen, along with Saarbrücken, is one of the two major Carnival strongholds in the state. The Rose Monday parade is the central stage for this tradition.
The NKA works closely with the police, fire department, and rescue services. Safety concepts are well-developed, but spectators are advised to follow the instructions of the security personnel.
As in previous years, the parade starts punctually at 2:11 PM. The route runs through the Neunkirchen city center and ends at the Saarpark Center. Safety concepts are well-rehearsed: street closures from midday, police and rescue services accompany the parade.
Hermannstraße → Zweibrücker Straße → Hohlstraße → Marktstraße → Oberer Markt → Hüttenbergstraße → Christuskirche → Lutherstraße → Lindenallee → Saarpark Center.
