The Bezirksfeste (district festivals) are a hallmark of Gelsenkirchen's neighborhood culture: throughout the year, the city hosts a free open-air festival in each of its various districts, spotlighting the local club scene, sports offerings, dance groups, and citizens' initiatives. In 2026, five district festivals are planned — spread across the West, Mitte, Süd, Nord, and Ost districts — and together they are united under the thematic focus IGA 2027 (International Garden Exhibition).

The Bezirksfest West will take place on Saturday, May 16, and Sunday, May 17, 2026, in the KGV Glückauf Schaffrath allotment garden complex on Giebelstraße in the Gelsenkirchen-West district. The choice of location is programmatic — an allotment garden complex as the venue refers to the IGA theme 'Garden, Greenery, Urban Nature'.
