The Bezirksfest West 2025 continued the tradition of Gelsenkirchen's neighborhood festivals — a free open-air program in the Glückauf Schaffrath allotment garden complex, supported by local clubs, dance groups, and citizens' initiatives. As every year, the festival aimed to showcase neighborhood culture and anchor the city's culture in its various districts.

The 2025 edition confirmed the value of the district festival format for Gelsenkirchen's neighborhood culture. The mix of local clubs, participatory sports activities, dance performances, and family events — completely free and held in an allotment garden complex as a symbol of urban greenery — perfectly matches the city's goals with its five district festivals: cultural encounters within one's own neighborhood, without admission barriers, driven by local actors. Building on the success of 2025, the series was expanded in 2026, with IGA 2027 as the common thematic focus.
