Techno Weekend and Day of Encounter — Premiere in Essen's North
Zeche Carl in Essen-Altenessen is one of the defining industrial monuments of the Ruhr area. After its closure in 1929, the former hard coal mine was repurposed into a socio-cultural centre — concerts, theatre, workshops, neighbourhood work. Today, Zeche Carl is a central hub for Essen's alternative cultural scene. In 2026, it expands its portfolio with its own festival: Pott Fest.
The concept for the inaugural event on August 30th and 31st, 2026, is clearly structured:
Around 20 DJs will play across three stages. Genre focus: Techno and House — from melodic-progressive to straight-driving. The performance areas are spread across the Zeche's grounds, from the inner courtyard to the repurposed machine halls. Starting in the afternoon, main programme from evening into the night.
The second day completely changes its tune: family activities, workshops, a graffiti action on one of the hall walls, hands-on stations for children, Pott Talks on neighbourhood and district work. This is the side of Pott Fest that explains its name: a Ruhr area day where neighbourly togetherness becomes the programme.
Throughout the weekend, food trucks offering various specialities will be on site — from street food burgers to falafel and fries. Admission is free, which is exceptional for a DJ event of this scale. The organizers — Zeche Carl in cooperation with the initiative EssenDIESE — want to send a clear signal: Pott Fest is for everyone, not just an insider format.
Essen-Altenessen is a district with history: once one of the most important mining centres of the region, today it is a diverse residential area with strong community cohesion. Zeche Carl here is not Disneyland, but a neighbourhood institution. It is precisely in this dynamic that Pott Fest finds its place — dancing energetically on Saturday, celebrating together on Sunday. Premiere 2026 — the concept has growth potential.
Organizers: Zeche Carl + Initiative EssenDIESE. Detailed DJ lineup will be announced on-site and at zechecarl.de.
