Berlin's great early summer Volksfest on the Teltowkanal
The Steglitzer Woche is one of Berlin's oldest and most popular Volksfeste. For more than two weeks in late May and early June, the Schaustellerverband Berlin e.V. transforms the festival park on the Teltowkanal in southern Berlin into a colorful festival mile. The venue in the Lichterfelde district (Steglitz-Zehlendorf borough) is a special feature: a spacious park, shaded by old trees, directly on the water, which gives the Volksfest a relaxed, almost Mediterranean atmosphere – unlike the asphalted major events in other federal states.
Around 60 showmen's businesses provide the program: from the classic children's carousel and the haunted house to the big adrenaline rides. Highlights include:
The open-air stage with a daily program is at the center of the festival park: cover bands, Schlager, rock, disco, and the traditional cabaret prize. The culinary offerings range from classic Bratwurst to international street food specialties (e.g., Turkish Kumru) to crepes, churros, candied almonds, beer, wine, and cocktails.
The Steglitzer Woche has existed since the mid-1950s and is one of the few major Berlin Volksfeste that still take place in a park rather than on a festival ground. After the Berliner Frühlingsfest, the Deutsch-Amerikanische Volksfeste, and the Neuköllner Maientage, it is part of the traditional Berlin Volksfest calendar and is operated by the Schaustellerverband Berlin e.V.
The 72nd Steglitzer Woche opens on Friday, May 22, 2026, at 6 PM. District Mayor Maren Schellenberg and the chairman of the Schaustellerverband Berlin, Michael Roden, will perform the traditional barrel tapping ceremony. Until June 7, 2026, the festival park on the Teltowkanal in Lichterfelde will be the meeting point for families from Steglitz-Zehlendorf, southern Berlin, and Brandenburg for two and a half weeks.
Complete program booklet available free of charge in the institutions of the Steglitz-Zehlendorf district from May 11, 2026, and at volksfest-berlin.de.
