About Steglitzer Woche

The Steglitzer Woche is one of Berlin's most traditional Volksfeste and is celebrated every year in the festival park on the Teltowkanal in Lichterfelde. Around 60 showmen with rides, a Ferris wheel, a chain carousel, a haunted house, food stalls, and a stage program gather on the shady festival grounds between Hindenburgdamm and Ostpreußendamm – free admission. The organizer is the Schaustellerverband Berlin e.V., which has been organizing the Steglitzer Woche together with the Steglitz-Zehlendorf district office since the 1950s.

Traditional Volksfest on the Teltowkanal

The Steglitzer Woche is one of Berlin's oldest and most popular Volksfeste. For more than two weeks in late May and early June, the Schaustellerverband Berlin e.V. transforms the festival park on the Teltowkanal in southern Berlin into a colorful festival mile. The venue in the Lichterfelde district (Steglitz-Zehlendorf borough) is a special feature: a spacious park, shaded by old trees, directly on the water, which gives the Volksfest a relaxed, almost Mediterranean atmosphere – unlike the asphalted major events in other federal states.

Rides and Attractions

Around 60 showmen's businesses provide the program: from the classic children's carousel and the haunted house to the big adrenaline rides. Highlights include:

  • Around the World XXL – chain carousel with a height of 80 m and panoramic views
  • High Sky – Ferris wheel with views over Lichterfelde
  • Melodie Star and Break Dance – classic Berlin carousels
  • Magic, XXL-Krake and Devil (two-story haunted house) – adrenaline rides
  • Chaos Airport and Pharaos Rache – fun houses and mirror maze
  • Piratenisland – water ride
  • Classic game stalls: shooting gallery, archery, throwing games

Stage Program and Culinary Offerings

The open-air stage with a daily program is at the center of the festival park: cover bands, Schlager, rock, disco, and the traditional cabaret prize. The culinary offerings range from classic Bratwurst to international street food specialties (e.g., Turkish Kumru) to crepes, churros, candied almonds, beer, wine, and cocktails.

History and Cultural Context

The Steglitzer Woche has existed since the mid-1950s and is one of the few major Berlin Volksfeste that still take place in a park rather than on a festival ground. After the Berliner Frühlingsfest, the Deutsch-Amerikanische Volksfeste, and the Neuköllner Maientage, it is part of the traditional Berlin Volksfest calendar and is operated by the Schaustellerverband Berlin e.V.
