What is the Weinfrühling?
The Weinfrühling at Ludwig-Beck-Platz is a three-day wine and arts and crafts festival held annually in early May in the Lichterfelde district (Steglitz-Zehlendorf borough). The organizer is Family & Friends e.V., a Berlin association that organizes art and wine markets several times a year in various districts – including the Weinbrunnen (Wine Fountain) at Ludwig-Beck-Platz in midsummer and the WEINachten market (Christmas wine market) during Advent. Thus, the Weinfrühling is the seasonal kickoff to a three-part series at the same location.
Program and Atmosphere
The event typically runs from Friday from 2 p.m., and Saturday and Sunday from 12 p.m. The square features stalls from vintners from various German wine regions, as well as exhibitors with arts and crafts (jewelry, ceramics, textiles, wood, glass), street food vendors, and small gourmet stalls. Live music is played on Friday and Saturday evenings from 7 p.m. – mostly jazz, acoustic, singer-songwriters, or small soul ensembles. On Mother's Day Sunday (May 10, 2026), an arts and crafts market will supplement the regular program.
Family & Friends e.V.
Family & Friends e.V. is a Berlin cultural association that has been curating wine and art markets in several districts for years – including Charlottenburg, Lichterfelde, and Westend. Their self-understanding: "With art and culture, we offer Charlottenburg residents the opportunity to meet three times a year." In Lichterfelde West at Ludwig-Beck-Platz, the association has established itself as a fixture: Weinfrühling in May, Weinbrunnen in summer, WEINachten during Advent. This tripartite structure allows the square to be staged as a recurring meeting place for the neighborhood.
Ludwig-Beck-Platz and Lichterfelde West
Ludwig-Beck-Platz is located directly at the Lichterfelde West S-Bahn station in the Lichterfelde district (Steglitz-Zehlendorf borough). The surrounding streets – Curtiusstraße, Marienstraße, Drakestraße – form a characteristic residential area of Gründerzeit villas and smaller apartment buildings. Lichterfelde West is considered one of the quietest and greenest districts in southern Berlin, with an active resident community that regularly utilizes the wine and arts markets.
Who Attends
The audience is predominantly local: residents from Lichterfelde, Steglitz, and Zehlendorf, supplemented by Berliners from other districts who travel specifically for the wines, arts and crafts, or live music. The atmosphere is rather relaxed and middle-class – not a Volksfest (public festival), but a gourmet weekend in the neighborhood.
