New electronic day festival in Amberg's Old Town — Open air on the Vils bridge
With the Brückenfestival Amberg, a completely new, location-specific festival format is being created in 2026 in the district capital of Upper Palatinate, Amberg. The day festival for electronic music will take place on the Kleine Vilsbrücke directly by the water, nestled in the historic city moat under the Pfalzgrafenring. The initiator of the festival is Thiemo Donhauser, together with the operators of the Casino-Saal Amberg and the Trio Club.
Donhauser's motivation: »Times have changed. People want to party more outdoors, and the club scene has changed since Corona.« The Brückenfestival responds to this shift — it brings the club feeling into the open air, with a professional Funktion-One sound system, a DJ booth directly on the Vils bridge, and food trucks along the city moat.
The lineup mixes international acts with local talent. Through a social media competition, citizens can also nominate and vote for up-and-coming DJ talents from the region; the winners will play their own set on the festival day. The program follows a house and techno-oriented electronic approach, but consciously remains family-friendly and accessible to all ages.
Amberg's Old Town with its medieval city walls, the Pfalzgrafenring, the Vils river, and its historic bridges is considered one of the best-preserved old town ensembles in Bavaria. The Brückenfestival deliberately uses this backdrop: the Stadtgraben axis with its watercourse, old city walls, and the Vils bridge becomes the festival arena — a deliberately urban venue rather than an anonymous festival site.
With the end of the open-air festival at 11 PM, the evening is not over: two official after-parties will take place at the Casino-Saal Amberg and the Trio Club. Festival tickets include discounted entry to the after-shows — a continuously curated experience from the afternoon until late into the night.
With the Brückenfestival, Amberg complements its existing cultural offerings around the Amberger Sommerfestival, the Bergfeste, and the Amberger Krüglmarkt. This adds a modern format to the large-city scene of the North Bavarian Upper Palatinate, which particularly appeals to a younger audience (admission from 16 years, under 16 accompanied by an adult free of charge) while also attracting older visitors with its culturally historic setting close to the old town.
The premiere of the Brückenfestival Amberg takes place on Saturday, July 11, 2026. The Kleine Vilsbrücke in the city moat under the Pfalzgrafenring becomes a DJ stage — with a professional Funktion-One sound system, an open-air dance floor along the water, and food trucks in the historic city moat ensemble.
The festival runs from 2 PM to 11 PM. Afterwards, two official after-parties take over — one at the Casino-Saal Amberg, one at the Trio Club — continuing the program into the night. Festival tickets include discounted aftershow entry.
The lineup mixes international and regional DJs. Through a social media competition, local DJ talents can be nominated and voted for, with the winners receiving an official set on the festival day. The capacity is limited to 1,500 guests; early bird tickets sold out quickly. Admission from 16 years, children under 16 accompanied by a parent or guardian free of charge.
The full lineup will be announced in the weeks leading up to the festival via the official channels: casinosaal.de/brueckenfestival-amberg and on Instagram/Facebook.
