Summer Wine Festival in the Mosel Twin Village
Bruttig-Fankel is an unusual Mosel community: the two districts Bruttig and Fankel lie on opposite banks of the Mosel and are connected by a bridge and a passenger ferry. This dual structure shapes social life — the two districts each maintain their own identity, their own clubs, and their own festivals. Thus, there are two major wine festivals in the municipality every year: the Weinfest Fankel in July and the Winzerfest Bruttig in August.
Fankel is located on the right bank of the Mosel and is connected to Bruttig by a distinctive bridge. The steep slopes around the village are among the most traditional on the Mosel and produce Rieslings of considerable minerality. The wine festival on the second weekend in July is the most important summer date in the district's festival calendar.
For four days, the festival grounds and the adjacent village center transform into a small festival mile with wine stands, a festival tent with a stage, snack offerings, and a beer stand. The atmosphere is familiar and village-like — not a mass event, but a meeting place for locals and their guests from the Rhineland, the Netherlands, and Belgium.
Highlights of the festival weekend are the dance evenings in the festival tent with live music from regional bands, the Sunday morning pint with brass music, and the festival finale on Monday with a cozy local heritage evening. The wines come exclusively from Fankel vintners and their neighbors — Rieslings, Spätburgunder, and Müller-Thurgau from the steep slopes around the village.
The 2026 wine festival in Fankel runs from Friday, July 10th, to Monday, July 13th. The organizer is the Verkehrs- und Verschönerungsverein Bruttig-Fankel (Traffic and Beautification Association). The festival grounds are centrally located in the Fankel district.
The exact program for 2026 will be published by the organizer in the summer. The structure follows the proven cornerstones of previous years:
Highlights: Rieslings from Fankel vintners, festival tent with live music, Sunday morning pint with brass music, Mosel-typical dishes, intimate village atmosphere, passenger ferry to Bruttig as a tourist addition.
Free admission. Food, drinks, and wine tasting on site.
Getting there: By car via the B49. By train to Cochem, then continue by bus. By passenger boat from Cochem directly to the Mosel riverbank.
Admission: Free. Food, drinks, and wine tasting on site.
Tip: Take the passenger ferry to Bruttig — the opposite district is worth a sightseeing detour.
