Annual district festival in southern Potsdam on the Kahleberg sports field
Waldstadt is a district in the south of Potsdam, east of the 'Stern' (Star) and directly adjacent to the forest of the Brauhausberg. The district was developed in the 1970s as a large prefabricated housing estate and is today one of the most vibrant neighborhoods in the state capital of Brandenburg — with around 12,000 inhabitants, a distinct multicultural neighborhood structure, and active social work. The EINE Waldstadt network brings together the most important players in the district: AWO Potsdam, district work, schools, kindergartens, sports clubs, and initiatives.
The Waldstadt District Festival is the annual summer celebration of the neighborhood. In 2026, it will take place on Saturday, September 5th, starting at 2 PM on the Waldsportplatz / Kahleberg-Sportplatz (Kiefernring 52). Admission is free. The festival deliberately has the character of a neighborhood festival — not a large commercial event, but a meeting place for the many clubs, initiatives, and residents of Waldstadt.
Although the detailed program for 2026 will only be published shortly before the date on potsdamwaldstadt.de, the district festival has followed a proven pattern for years:
The festival is organized by the EINE Waldstadt network. This association of AWO Potsdam, district work, schools, kindergartens, and sports clubs is one of the most prominent examples of active neighborhood development in Potsdam. The district festival is the annual highlight of their networking efforts — and a place where new initiatives become visible.
The Kahleberg sports field is located at Kiefernring 52, east of Forsthaus-Allee. From Potsdam main station, you can reach the sports field with tram line 91 or 96 in about 15 minutes. If you are arriving by car, use the B2/B273 (Heinrich-Mann-Allee) and follow the signs for Waldstadt. Parking is available on the sports field and in the surrounding area.
